Wells Institute Day 5: BLAMMO! The Books Are Done!

ASTONISHING BOOK VICTORY! Day 5 of our letterpress-printed artists’ books workshop saw every single edition bound up and ready to view. And now, the roundup. In alphabetical order:

Andrew:

Andrew found a novel way to dry his sheets before binding them up. Then he bound like the wind. (but a kind of very precise kind of wind capable of cutting tiny holes over and over and over.)

Caroline:

I am going to break here from books and say that THANK GOD Caroline was here because I now finally know who exactly the Kardashians are. In addition to providing some very pertinent information in this department, Caroline printed a book with text inspired by the cuts she found around the shop:

David:

David revolted and produced a digital book. But there were some letterpress moments. See if you can find them.

nope, not up there.

Ahhh, there it is. Very funny, David. You are lucky I have a thick skin or I might feel wounded by that. David was also the secret invisible helper and the dorm bartender. He was kept very busy.

Jamie, often spelled Jaime (or, as I called her about five times, “Leslie”):

KABLAM!

Kirin:

Yeah, she printed that bandana thing in her hair. So for Kirin, this was an artists’ books and bandana workshop.

Everything in this book was in some way accidentally related to Kirin’s wardrobe and/or jewelry. Also it is very beautiful.

Laura:

Laura managed to print and bind a book despite being my assistant over the course of the week. How she managed to get this complicated number together even while running around checking on everyone is one of the great mysteries. What happened to the Roanoke colony? Where is Amelia Earhart? How did Laura find time to print this book?

Molly:

Molly made a book inspired by the cut of a bunny that she found in Paris. It is meant to resemble children’s blocks, and was the most colorful thing in the whole building.

Rose:

Look, she doesn’t look like she is in the middle of producing a glorious book, does she? But wait! Look here:

This week has been the greatest. Thanks Wells College and Nancy Gil for the Wells Book Arts Summer Institute. All kinds of wonderful work came from all of the students, including those taking classes with Carol Barton, Ron Gordon, and Sharon Zeugin. I am staying around next week to take a class with Daniel Kelm. But first I am going to lie down.
